Higham Ferrers is located
within the Nene Valley, part of
which was designated in 2011 as
a Special Protection Area (SPA)/
Ramsar site under the EU Birds
Directive. The Upper Nene Valley
Gravel Pits SPA is partially
situated within the parish
boundary and runs from
Peterborough to Northampton.
The town is well linked to
Stanwick Lakes which is just
over 2 miles from the centre of
Higham Ferrers, either by road
or on foot or bicycle via the
‘Greenway’.
Saffron Road Recreation
Ground is well equipped as it
contains Multi-Sport and Tennis
Courts, Cricket and Football
pitches, Skateboard Park,
Outdoor Gym Equipment and a
Children’s Play Area and Bowls
Green. It is used by Higham
Ferrers Cricket Club, Tennis, Bowls
and Football Clubs who pay for
the privilege – other teams can
contact the Town Hall on how to
book. There is a ‘Dogs on Leads’
order for part of the Recreation
Ground. The Multi-Sport and
Tennis Court can be hired by
contacting the Town Hall.
A Dogs Off Lead Area is
situated off Stanwick Road (other
side of A6). Pedestrian access is
by using the footbridge at the
end of Stanwick Road. This was
opened by the Council in 2018.
Registered Village Green
(adjacent Glebe Farm) is opposite
the ‘Dogs Off Lead’ Area. It can be
used for informal recreation and
footpath VC28 runs across it.
Castle Fields is situated in
Kimbolton Road, with pedestrian
access also being available from
College Street and Midland Road,
and contains the ancient Castle
Coneygarth (rabbit warren), the
remnants of a Castle Moat and
the site of a Motte and Bailey
Castle all of which are part of an
ancient monument.
Riverside Park is a pocket park
situated at the lower end of Wharf
Road and has the back channel
for the River Nene passing
through it, the river having been
diverted by the construction of
the A45 bypass. Fishing at the
park is controlled by the Riverside
Park Angling Club and is exclusive
to their membership.
Kings Meadow Lane Open

areas is controlled by the council,
currently Kings Meadow phase 1,
