What makes a community? It
could be the buildings, the
connections to other local towns
and villages or the number of
clubs and societies, but one thing
that brings all of these together
is the people who live there and
work hard to make it thrive and
survive. In Higham Ferrers, there
are over 30 groups and societies
and almost 200 businesses –
shops, factories, and people
working from home.
Higham Ferrers Tourism,
Business and Community
Partnership is a group of
volunteers working for our town
and community. The organisation
started 17 years ago with the aim
of promoting the town and its
rich historical heritage as well as
providing community events and
activities for people to enjoy cheese and wine evenings, open
gardens and town-wide garage
sales to name but a few. Any
proceeds are used on projects to
enhance or maintain facilities in
the town.
We proudly funded the very
popular zip wire and additional
play equipment in Saffron Park
and also fund the planting of
the flower troughs in the town
each year.
We work with Higham Ferrers
Town Council, St Mary’s Church,
the local schools and many other
businesses and community
groups within the town to make
Higham Ferrers an engaging,
lively and pleasant place to live,
work and play.
Higham Tourism also manage
the ancient site of Chichele
College where many events take
place, often with no entry fee.
It is the venue for the annual
Horticultural Show and from
March-November many local
artists exhibit and sell their
work in the beautiful medieval
surroundings of the great hall.
There are also exhibitions by
local history and archaeological
societies and local artisans, and
you can enjoy live music for free
at the music nights.
Our annual summer Chichele
garden fair provides something
for the family with children’s
activities, art and heritage as well
as much for the garden lover to
enjoy. For a pre-Christmas treat
that’s as magical as Christmas
itself many families visit Santa’s
Grotto in his winter wonderland
at the Christmas Sparkle (usually
on the second-to-last Saturday in
November, 23rd in 2019 and 21st
in 2020). The Sparkle brings over
3,000 people into the town and
gives us a chance to show people
what Higham Ferrers has to offer.
