The Railway Station
10
I
n 1892 work began on a new Railway Line which
was built to Higham Ferrers. Passenger services
began in 1894.The station building was built in stone
rather than Midland Railway bricks. The Higham
“Gusher” linked the town with Wellingborough until
regular services ended in 1959. All trace of this end of
the line has now gone.
At one time some 20lbs of locally grown walnuts had
to be sent every year from a tree at the station to the St.
Pancras Hotel in London
